Ancient Forest

Captain Palmer's 1893 expedition to the edge of Siberia brought him deep into an ancient temperate forest, where towering deciduous trees created a dense canopy overhead. His journal entry describes an unexpected encounter that left him momentarily stunned. "Among these northern woodlands, I witnessed a sight most unusual: a young deer, delicate and alert, standing in a shaft of filtered sunlight," Palmer recorded for the Royal Geographical Society. He noted the rarity of such a sighting at this latitude, quickly sketching the graceful creature before it disappeared into the thick undergrowth. The animal's presence suggested ecological patterns worth further investigation. This remarkable moment from the primeval forest now lives on through Emőke's brushwork on a handcrafted wooden jewelry box.
